“Born This Way” Model Search is ON!!!!!!

The “Lights, Camera, Senior Fashion” Show is officially changing this year! It was such a huge success that I decided to open this up to two more age groups and we’re changing some of the model aspects of the show!

Here’s what’s the same:

This is still a major fundraiser for MADD!

We’re still going to rock fashions from local boutiques! Buy local and be happy! :D

Models still get free model sessions and portrait sessions!

Minimum purchases are still greatly reduced for all models!

Models can still earn their pictures for free through the spokesmodel program.

High school seniors are still the main attraction! If you are a member of the class of 2013 – email isabel at isabelsam dot com to get all the info.!

Here’s what’s different:

The name, obviously!

Moms with babies 18 months and younger will be modeling baby carriers from Mother Nurture!

We’re including children ages 8-12 in the show this year too! WAHOOO!!!

This year child models and Senior models will have my model program extend into a national model program. Children could win a photo shoot and scholarships, high schoolers could win a model contract with AIG!

There are now multiple tiers in the model program: Print models up to Fashion Show models. You can choose what’s best for you!

Spokesmodels who do a great job can earn a $1,000.00 scholarship for college!

The informational meeting is coming up on 2/11/12! Please email isabel at isabelsam dot com to get an invite to model! I’m so so so excited for this year and all the crazy fun we’re going to have!

And lastly, let’s end with this video from last year’s show. :)

Fall mini sessions! ~ Lexington KY Christmas Pictures

Get excited people! It’s that time of year again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This fall we’re teaming up with Mother Nurture here in Lexington! It’s a wonderful store that helps green mothers and their babies make it through pregnancy and those difficult first years of life. I’ve had to buy so much of the products they sell in their store online! I wish I had a store like them when I had Solomon. Sigh.

BUT, now I have them here in Lexington and they are fabulous! So, our businesses got together and decided to throw a mini session party at Mother Nurture!

As usual, here are the rules of the game:

When: Saturday, November 12th from 10am to 3pm. You’ll sign up for a 15 minute session in a 30 minute time slot!

Where: at the green areas around Mother Nurture (2891 Richmond Rd # 102 Lexington, KY 40509). If the weather doesn’t cooperate we have a back up plan in the store!

How much: $50 session fee and $150 minimum product order. We, of course, have special mini session packages for you too!

How to schedule: Call me 513.550.1329 or email me isabel (at) isabelsam (dot) com to set up your session.

I’m so excited for this partnership and sooooo excited to see your lovely family soon!!!!

xoxo,

Isa

Just for fun ~ Lexington KY Fun Photographer

We had fun yesterday at the Bridal Bliss Classic! It was great meeting so many fun brides who laughed with us at fun Happy Booth photos and told me I have a “creative eye”. People are great, but geez, I’m still tired from yesterday!

Anywho, so, a few weeks ago I had to submit some photos for this advertising thing I’m doing. The funny thing about this, though, was that this group emailed me asking me for photos like it was nothing. They had no idea that we just moved here to Lexington and I actually don’t have wedding images from the Headley-Whitney museum. Nothing. At. All. I’ve just shot a couple of family portrait sessions there. Sweet Beth must talk me up too much! Soooooooo, what do I do? I call up my flexible and adorable and happy models and say “be ready at this time and this date!” AND, guess what? They were TOTALLY READY!!!!!!!!!! Soooo, off we went to break in to the museum grounds! :-)

IsabelSamPhotographyHW04 copy

Now, while I was getting this shot, we discovered that there were TONS OF MOSQUITOES attacking one of my fabulous models. So, we ran this photo session into quick time. Anyone who has seen me photograph family photos at weddings – yeah- that’s where I went. ;-)

IsabelSamPhotographyHW05 copy

Oh and a quick tip: if you eat lots of citrus, mosquitoes don’t think you’re so sweet. Yep. Trust me. I’ve lived in mosquito land and haven’t been bitten and I LOVE citrus! :-) (Google it, it really is true!)

The end. And thank you, my models, for having fun with me! I love you guys!!!

Modeling ~ Lexington KY Senior Portrait Photography

Ever since beginning my Senior Model program I’ve had high school seniors join it who want to become models or some how get involved with show business or the fashion industry. I’m always amazed at how this attracts so many fun students, especially since I’ve created all of this just to have a fun time…and it turns into a really really really super fun time with students falling in love with the program and coming back to help with it even after they are too old for it! I’m not going to lie, it makes my heart glad to see everyone enjoy themselves so much. :-)

So, after meeting all of these future models, it’s come to my attention that a lot of them who have the means to already start trying to get into the model/fashion industry are blowing around $4k or more a year on modeling classes, photographs, getting published in crazy magazines, and going to paying and nonpaying gigs. This kind of blows my mind since I know for a fact that you really shouldn’t have to pay any money to get involved in modeling, but I guess you do what you can to try and make it, and the big model agencies do get tons of pictures of people who want to be models every single day.

Anywho, this is where I’m going with this post. There is a photography organization that exists to educate senior photographers about the latest trends in fashion and to help them create more “model type” senior photographs. They also have a big fashion show at their conferences and hold a photo contest that I could enter high school students who have their senior pictures taken with me in so they could participate in the fashion show. There is also a representative from AIG at this event who scouts out potential models to sign to contracts.

Here is where I am at with this. People who know me, know that I run my business on the side of generosity. There is a saying that tells us “with great power comes great responsibility”. As a business owner, I take that responsibility seriously, and I only want to provide a fun way that actually could help any future models I have. If I would join this photography organization I would have to pay out extra money to join and spend some extra time away from my family at the conference. However, if this could be a great way to help jump start my models careers for way less than $4K/year and guarantee them that they will actually be seen by a big modeling company’s representative – I think this could be a great and wonderful option to give my seniors.

Here are the three options that can be made available to my seniors:

1: For an extra $200.00 I can submit some of your senior portraits to the photo contest and you will receive ten comp cards from me with 4-5 of your pictures on there and your stats to submit to modeling agencies. If you are picked in one of the top 20 spots from the photo contest you will get a free trip to the conference (this will be in Missouri), a spot in the fashion show, a model lesson, and a model class where the modeling career will be explained to you. You will also be used as the models for the photographers who are there at the show and will spend another day in front of hundreds of cameras. The typical year gives models around a 1/10 chance of making it to the top twenty. This could be a higher or lower ratio depending on the number of entries.

2: If your photos do not get you into the top 20, but they do get you into the top 30, you will get all of the above except for the free trip to the conference. So, you will need to pay to get there and for your hotel room. The conference does negotiate for good hotel rates and would cost around $100/night for four nights. If you want to fly or drive doesn’t really matter to me. :-)

3. Now, if you unfortunately don’t make it to the top 30, but you’d still like to go to the conference and be photographed a whole lot, get modeling lessons, learn about the modeling career, and still get the comp cards – this is your option. You would need to pay for your trip to the conference and an extra $500. However, when time comes for the photography sessions and the classes you will be put into the same group as the “photo contest winners”. The AIG representative will be there at all times that you are with the group and every year they have signed senior students to contracts who didn’t make it into the top 30.

If you made it this far in the post, congratulations! AND if you are a high school student who is interested in this, please talk this over with your parents and then let me know if you would do this. I’ve asked a few people about this and the ones who are into modeling seem to be ALL OVER THIS. What I need to know now is if there is enough interest from teenagers who are into modeling for me to go forward with joining this photography group.

If you are one of those teens who want to do this and are totally excited for it – please leave a comment or email me isabel (at) isabelsam (dot) com and let me know!

I’m excited to see where this takes my modeling program. :-)

Much love,

Isa

Clarence ~ Lexington KY Senior Portraits

Clarence is this totally sweet and cool incoming high school Senior. He said he wanted his pictures taken at a park and after suggesting a few parks for his photo session he told me he really wanted to go to Jacobson Park. I said okay and off we went!

CV01 copy

While we were driving around the park I asked what it was that he liked about the park so much. He told me he loves trees! And this park has tons of trees! Plus he is in training for his swim team and he goes running from his house to the park almost every day. He really loves this place!

CV04 copy

So, off we went to find some trees. They seriously weren’t that hard to find. :-)

CV09 copy

A little man made forest.

CV14 copy

And we found a tree he could climb!

His sister insisted that he should bring his jacket along with him for the shoot because he looks cool in it. So, we worked it in at the end!

Thank you so much, Clarence! It’s fun going to a park with you!!!

:)

We’re still alive :)

Brianna ~ Lexington KY Creative Pageant Photography

Brianna won the Junior Miss Kentucky Teen award which feeds into the America’s National Teenager Scholarship Pageant. So, she’s on her way to Miami this summer to go for the Miss America version of that title! Her mama contacted me not too long after she won this crown to photograph Brianna for nationals. I was pretty surprised that I was asked to photograph her since I have seen the popular pageant type of photography and let’s just say that I do not mix well with that style. In fact, if you are reading this and you are into pageants, please please please do not contact me if you want typical pageant photographs of yourself! I just can’t do it. It’s like asking me to write legibly with my left hand. It can’t be done.

So, anyway, back to Brianna’s mom…apparently this pageant wants the contestants to come down there with some unique and creative photographs. That’s where I came in. I can do creative! Any. Day. Of. The. Week. :-)

She needed some headshots for this contest.

263912_10150693357305537_119650195536_19266503_4449043_n

She mentioned something about needing a “broken down doll” or something like that shot…and here’s what came out of that. I thought it was nice and moody. :-)

264033_10150693357660537_119650195536_19266509_2317879_n

A waist up shot was also necessary.

267320_10150693357400537_119650195536_19266505_8343922_n

I figured that since she was representing the state of Kentucky and Kentucky is known for its horses…why not do the shoot at Keeneland early in the morning when the horses are exercising. Yep. So, that’s what we did. :-) You don’t even want to know how many times this was reshot to get it just right. Let’s just say that perfectionism and large animals who have their own agenda…some times need a little extra time to mix correctly. :-)

267508_10150693357165537_119650195536_19266499_705251_n

And this is another “broken down doll” shot.

269570_10150693357540537_119650195536_19266507_3361844_n

That’s it for the pretty pictures. :) Now for those who have asked and commented on the technicalities of the other images here are some answers to your questions.

In order to get a shot with the horses blurred like that – you need to drag your shutter speed. I was at 1/25th for that one.

Yes, this entire shoot happened at Keeneland. No studio or special studio lights were present. I relied on sunlight diffused by beautiful clouds, available lights, and my speedlights.

Some extra retouching was done to these photographs. This is still a pageant, people, but I did make sure that the retouchers didn’t make her face look like a plastic doll. I can’t take those photographs! :)

Good luck to you, Brianna! I hope you win!

Kimberly ~ Lexington KY Senior Portrait Photographer

Kimberly is a beautiful girl after my own heart! She’s hard working, smart, and so so so great with her family! We started out her session with some hair and makeup by the super fabulous Ana Crane-Simpson!

KR01 copy

Then we took off to a cemetery that’s near down town Lexington. :) (This was Kimberly’s request…and no, it didn’t freak me out at all! I loved it!)

KR03 copy

We found a weeping willow.

KR04 copy

Some other “pretty stuff”.

KR08 copy

And some cool stuff. :)

KR10 copy

And then we danced a little bit. :)

Visited a little building with some dead bodies.

After that off we went to Keeneland for some more shooting fun!

One guy told me that a lot of photographers take pictures at this clock. I don’t really know why….but we decided to go for it anyway.

The end! Thank you for all the fun, Kimberly!

Denise’s Senior Portrait Session ~ Lexington KY Senior Portraits

We started Denise’s senior pictures over at her house with hair and make-up by the wonderful Sara Drury!

DC02 copy

Denise wanted a more urban feel for her portraits so we headed to downtown! Once we got there she mentioned that she really liked this one graffiti mural that’s there…so off we went to find it. :)

DC03 copy

She’s one of those “natural born models”. Ridiculous. AND I’m not complaining because it makes my job super easy!

DC08 copy

Then we found some construction!

And a theater with mirrors!
