Bringing in the New Year with a contest!

I hope your New Year has started out fabulously!!!

I wanted to start out this year with something fun and happy and joyful and different! :-) So, here it goes! (Actually, I do this every year – it’s just that the need has always been presented to me, so I don’t post it, but this year – I don’t have one of these weddings on the books!)

Do you know a fun couple who constantly put others first? Are they planning a 2010 wedding, but have gone through HUGE AND GREAT difficulties (like surviving cancer, death of a parent…etc…), and just don’t know where the money will come from? Are they people who inspire you to do better and help others here on this earth?

If so, I want to hear their story! BECAUSE I want to give them free wedding photography! That’s right, I will give the winning couple 8 hours of coverage, an 8×8 Coffee table book, and an engagement session – all for free!

All I need is their story by March 1st 2010 (please limit this to one page), permission to post their story on my blog, and whoever wins this contest must sign a model release for me to post their images on my blog-site. (Oh and the winning couple must possess a real need….not being able to afford mortgage payments on their 2 million dollar vacation home in Paris does not qualify them. Sorry!) I am so excited to read the entries!!!!!

Rachel

So remember that blog post where I asked people to submit stories of people who deserved a free lifestyle session for Christmas? And then do you remember the one where I announced the winner was Rachel?

Okay, well, if you don’t, go scroll down ;-)

And either way, here is her post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was a total joy to meet! I seriously love her spirit!

So here’s how we started out. Their dog, Buckeye, was ready to run and play but they kept him tied up until they were all ready to go! Poor big doggie!

But then they were ready and he took them for a walk ;)

They did their favorite thing – which is running up and down the river! How fun!!! I can’t wait until Solomon can do that too with out major disasters!

Rachel is such a good mom!

Then I took a few portraits of her beautiful self!

I’m in love with these eyes!!!!!

Okay, so, this is so cool! Rachel’s dad actually helped restore this old cabin that’s behind them in this picture! How cool is that?!

We had a bit of a snafu with some plans, so we had to cut the session short….BUT Rachel and her cool son came to my Happy Booth party at Caribou Coffee and we made up for most of it!

I loved all of his poses!!!!!

The end! I can’t wait to see you guys soon!

Merry Christmas everybody!

Holiday photography winner!

Yep, we have a winner!!!!

After many deserving stories, and let me tell you, this choice was very very tough!!!! Unfortunately, only one can win!

Here’s the story that was sent in for this incredibly lovely lady! (Some names have been changed or altered to make this story clear and/or for privacy reasons.)

“I first met Rachel a few years ago in her capacity as a horse-back riding instructor at a Riding Center, where my husband was taking lessons.  She had been recommended as the best instructor there, and she certainly was awesome at it.  She is always fun and creative in her lessons, even with the difficult students (and horses).  Rachel has been teaching there every Sunday for at least 7 years now and she also runs the summer camps.  For a few months, I signed on as an instructor there too, and while it is a paid position, it was barely enough to cover the cost of gas to get there most of the time.  Rachel does it because she loves it but unfortunately even if she worked there full-time it would not provide sufficient income for even the most frugal lifestyle.

Rachel’s primary job is as a teacher’s aid at a Montesorri school.  Last year, she was assigned to a high school boy named Phil with autism and other disabilities which impacted his motor skills.  Her job was to help Phil through out the school day with his assignments and day-to-day needs.  She would go with him to his work-study job and help with basic tasks like sharpening pencils.  Because of her patience and commitment to doing her best for Phil, she became friends with his mother and would occasionally go to dinner with the two of them.

This year Rachel is assigned to a middle school girl who is legally blind and she is working to coordinate the technology that makes it possible for her to see textbooks and assignments.  Earlier this month the school took the students on a camping trip and Rachel took her student kayaking.  Rachel drives her own car for field trips like this and does not get reimbursed by the school for the gas or mileage.  On one of these days, upon arrival at the campsite, an hour away, Rachel was asked to drive a boy back home to Cincinnati after causing some trouble on the bus.  She took him home and then returned to the campsite.  The boy was so thankful for her kindness to him during the drive back that he wrote her a thank you note for it.

Even with these two jobs, which keep her busy six days a week, Rachel’s income is barely enough to cover her rent, bills and groceries.  She is a single mother in her early 30’s with a 7 year old son named Justin.  Justin is a very sweet boy, but he also has ADHD which has led to significant challenges for him in school and at home.  About a year ago, Rachel decided to make some big changes to allow her to focus more time on Justin and save money.  She found wonderful new homes for her two horses and moved into her grandmother’s home in Hamilton, OH.  (Her grandmother passed away and her dad inherited the house.)  Giving up the horses was a huge sacrifice – they are like children and Rachel’s life would revolve around horses if it were possible for her.  Somehow she has managed to live frugally enough to pay off all her credit cards and save up an emergency fund.

Rachel could definitely use a professional photography session.  She doesn’t own a camera of her own and most of the photos she has of herself were taken of her at work in her capacity as a riding instructor.  I would love for her to have some wonderful photos of her and her son.  I think it would give her a real emotional boost to see herself at her best, and I know she can often use a bit of a boost.  She works very hard to make those around her happy but she rarely does anything for herself.”

The person who submitted this story is Bianca! She’s been on here before, remember this beautiful face?

Rachel just won my heart with this story. Part of it is because my mom is a teacher and was a single mother. Another part of it is because I totally LOVE horses too! I think that combination just won my heart (and anyone who Bianca nominates is totally legit!) and now we have a winner!

I can’t wait to meet you Rachel! This is going to be a really great session!

With lots of love and excitement,

Isa

A SUPER STEAL!!!!!!!

Hello Friends!

As many of you may have noticed…there have been some big changes happening around here. First, is the fun news that I finished my MS degree in IS – so I now have more time to dedicate to my business. Next came the new blogsite, pricing guides, and my very own channel on YouTube so I could embed videos to show off my work instead of the typical flash sites ;) After that came the green (aka totally environmentally friendly) and completely hand made album that I will be showcasing at Bridalrama. Next, comes something totally awesome!!!! I am getting ready to change my style of shooting at weddings!!!!!!! I’m uber excited about this! I’ll still keep to my roots of simple, fun, painless, and personal work – but it’s about to be upped a notch! I’m moving over to a more fashion enthused (think Vogue meets my sillyness) type of style and I couldn’t be happier!!!!

The thing is, though, that wedding days go by SUPER DUPER quick and I want to be sure I am 100% ready to showcase this at my 2010 weddings. So, here’s where the super steal comes in!

I am offering to shoot two weddings for a cool 1k each. That’s right. Pick your jaw up off the floor; I am not lying! I am offering a full 8 hours of just me shooting your wedding with approximately 300 retouched images delivered to you on DVD with reproduction rights. All I need from you is permission to work my new style of shooting at your wedding. I want almost complete creative control and 40 minutes with the bride and groom (the bridal party can be included in this, but not family formals) just to work out this new way of shooting. It does take a little more work for me, but I believe I am 95% ready to go with this at a wedding. Also, these weddings have to happen between November 2009 and April 2010.

I can’t wait to show off this new style and I’m super excited to meet the two couples I’ll be working with!

With Love,

Isa

P.S. A post with no photo is kinda sad…so here’s a happy one! Doesn’t she just make you want to giggle?!

Welcome!

After lots of work and lots of fun, welcome to my new site! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!!!

I thought I would launch this site with a contest! Who doesn’t love a contest?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

So, here we go!

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — a free lifestyle portrait session with the disc and a music video to be exact. It’s in your power to give them this artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a free mini-session the next time they are announced. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The Rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* Your nominee must reside in Ohio. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* You must e-mail me the full story by November 12th : isabel [at] isabelsam dot com

The winner will be announced a week before Thanksgiving – - so get nominating!!!! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season – - and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With love,

Isa
